The African Winter School will take place at Mopani Camp in the Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa. It covers 18,989 square km (7,332 sq mi) and extends 350 km (217 mi) from north to south and 60 km (37 mi) from east to west.

Getting There
Below are some options for getting to Mopani Camp, from Johannesburg. Also refer to the "How to get there" page on the Kruger National Park website for more options.
PLEASE NOTE: The gates in the park are closed at nights. Check this page for the exact closing times. When planning your trip, ensure that you have plenty of time to arrive before the gates are closed. If you are going to make use of a transfer, make sure that the driver have enough time to exit the park before the gates are closed.
Rent a Car: Rental cars are available from the following companies: Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz.
Directions: Take the N1 tollroad to Polokwane (Pietersburg). 40 km before Polokwane turn right onto the R71 and head for Tzaneen. After Tzaneen, head towards Phalaborwa and the gate. Allow between 6 to 7 hours for the trip from Johannesburg to the gate. Mopani camp is approximately 74 km away from the gate. Allow about 3 hours for the drive to the camp, however if you want to enjoy the game viewing possibilities give yourself more time!
Fly to Phalaborwa: The closest airport to Mopani is Gateway Airport situated in Phalaborwa. Gateway is situated approximately 3 km from Phalaborwa Gate. Daily flights are available from O.R. Tambo Airport (Johannesburg) to Phalaborwa (see here for a schedule). Please remember that from the airport in Phalaborwa it is still about a 3 hours drive to Mopani Camp. You can hire a car at the airport (using the same companies as above) or use a transfer service.
